Hello! I just found BYC & was excited there's a forum for fellow chicken enthusiasts to talk chickens & have a resource of knowledge from other chicken owners!
Growing up I was in FFA & I raised chickens. I haven't had chickens for many years but now that my kids have reached the toddler & preschool age I thought it would be a great experience for them to raise chickens & breed them to sell hatching eggs & chicks. We want them to have farm experiences like we did growing up so we're slowly working on starting a homestead. They're so excited about it & my preschooler said she wants to build a farmstand to sell the eggs lol. I'm a stay at home mom so I thought it'd be a fun way to make a little extra money too while giving us a fun way to spend time together!
This spring we're getting a combination of hatching eggs & chicks. The breeds we're getting are:
•Whiting True Blues
•Black Copper Marans
•Buff Orpingtons
•Speckled Sussex
•Bielefelder
•Black Australorp
•Welsummers
•Blue Cochins
•Salmon Faverolles
•Lavender Cochin Bantams (some will be frizzles)
•thinking of maybe adding Silverudd's Blue (Isbar)
The number of chickens keeps going up! Haha I started off with just wanting to get a couple but there are so many awesome kid friendly breeds that we're up to 20 some (almost 30) chickens now!
does anyone else have this problem of finding too many breeds they like that they end up getting way more than they originally planned on??
