(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I've been keeping chickens since 2020. I wanted them before the pandemic, but it really gave me the urgency to go out and do it.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I currently have 12 out in the coop, but I'm about to get more chicks this weekend.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I like having a variety so that I can have multicolored egg cartons. I have Buff Orpingtons (my favorite), Black Copper Marans, Barred Rocks, Olive Eggers, and Welsummers at the moment. I will be getting some easter eggers, along with others this weekend.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love observing and interacting with the chickens. They each have very different personalities. The eggs are a great bonus too.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I garden, can and preserve food, knit and make sourdough. I'm also a metal head.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
At home is me and my husband, 2 Great Danes, and 2 cats. I am a registered nurse at an infusion center.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've been reading posts in the forum for years whenever I needed advice on chicken keeping. I found this site via Google. I decided to join so I can share advice and my experience with others as well.
