I have been lurking for weeks so I thought I'd introduce myself. I am active duty AF, been in 13 years and stationed in Colorado but moving to NM-just east of Albuquerque-next month.
I have wanted chickens for a long time mainly I guess because we had them when I was a little girl (grew up in rural MS) and I always loved them. I recently found my rental home in NM and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it already had a chicken coop. It needed work, (along with the rest of the place
), but the hard work has paid off and I have about got it ready for chickens. My DBF, who just shook his head when I asked, made me a brooder as an early birthday present and I am all set for my chicks from MPC to arrive when I do at the end of next month.
I have been reading everything I can get my hands on in regards to raising my chickens so I am nervous but ready to get my babies. I ordered some BO's, SLW's and Welsummers. Hopefully they will provide some stress relief, eggs and good composting material and I will spoil them rotten just like my pups. I have a silky terrier and an english bulldog that are probably the most rotten animals on the planet. I also have a 15 DS and 13 and 11 year old DD's that are very excited about our soon to be flock.
Thanks to all of you who provide so much knowledge and advice. I may not ask the questions that others have but have learned much from all of you. I also really love everyone's pictures.
