I'm a new "mother hen"! At the farmer's co-op we saw chicks. "Can I have one please???" Yes! We decided to wait for a new batch of 2 day old chicks, and then waited one more week so we'd be better set up. The day before the big day we rode our bikes to the co-op to buy the water and food dishes, feed, and my husband rode my bike home with a whole bale of straw tied down on my big basket. The next morning we brought four buff orpingtons home in my bike basket. ( we put the little cardboard carrier inside a box of straw) We put them in an aquarium. Our dog was most excited to sit and watch them. Using what we already have, we put a heating pad in the aquarium to keep them warm. It's time to get them a bigger home now though. For the first few days there was no time to play with them :,( We sit with them on a blanket in the living room. They are a little handful
and I have so much to learn. I am so glad we got them because I think they'll bring a little bit of happiness into our lives.
