Hello from Seattle!
My name is Victoria. My husband, Ian and I are proud to have 2 hens (2-year old Plymouth Barred Rock and New Hampshire Red) and 4 new chicks (aged 2-4 weeks - Barnevelder, Golden-Laced Wyandotte, and 2 French Black Copper Marans). We lost our beloved Buff Orpington, Miss Bernadette 'Bernie' Beignet in December. Our flock are strictly pets who provide us with tasty eggs in return for us letting them 'eat our yard'. I think they have a good time.
Our hen house is fashioned after a New Orleans style shotgun shack. We feel a deep connection with that city and go there as often as possible. Naturally, all the ladies have southern and New Orleans influenced names.
Ian currently works on a small farm, while I project manage software developers. We are actively pursuing farming as a career for ourselves. We hope to be to market in 2013.
Although we do plan on expanding our flock as part of our business plan, we will maintain our backyard flock as pets. They have been pardoned and will get to be fat old pampered hens.
I first found BackYardChickens when doing research on raising happy hens a couple years back. I come here often and decided it was finally time to join in.
Glad to be here!
