Howdy from Oak Cliff, Texas!
Courtney and Jimmy here. We are raising a flock of 12 hens in our backyard. Courtney always wanted to raise chickens and Jimmy was a seasoned chicken professional so when Jimmy and Courtney fell in love, Jimmy brought home 6 fluffy yellow Leghorn chicks!
We both work full-time for animal welfare organizations which is how we met. Once our 6 Leghorns started to grow up, we introduced 3 new ladies: a Buff Orpington, an Americauna, and a Barred Rock. Then, a few weeks ago, Courtney went on a work-related rescue and seized 250 animals that were being cruelly confined and were in pretty bad shape. Most of them were chickens. We adopted three chickens from that rescue and they're fitting in great with the rest of our flock.
Our hens are now starting to lay. 5 out of our 12 are currently laying.
We've visited this forum many times before for the useful information it provides, so now we're happy to be finally signing up!
