Hi

My name's Freya and I'm a chicken-lover! We've been keeping a few chickens since April 2009 and I just fall more and more in love with them. We had a terrible fox attack in October 2011 which wiped out my entire flock (still the most traumatic experience of my life!) but I have been slowly rebuilding since then. The current flock consists of five Pekin bantams (Wendy, Mildred, Mabel, Bianca and Spike) and one Orpington bantam (Izzy) - I've had all sorts in the past and Pekins are my favourites really - such character!

We're currently trying to hatch some chicks with two of our Pekins but I'm not sure it's going so well - hence my joining to look for some support - but now I've found you, I look forward to getting involved!

The rest of my family consists of DH, three DD and two not so dear dogs!

Freya

Sorry to hear about your loss! How awful. Best of luck with your hatch!

Hello, I am a new member of BYC but have gotten some answers here at times. I would like to tell you and others that I put a radio in my coop and turn it up loud enough to hear it from outside the coop and the reason I do this is because I worked a job one time where a raccoon would raid our fridge inside a barn we were working on and after many things tried, I left the radio on to help deter the critters from getting in there anymore and much to my surprise, it worked. So when I built my coop I decided to put one out there and never have had any problems and my yard backs up to woods. I hope this helps you. Its sad to lose any animals.
