Hi everyone! I'm totally new to owning chickens. We got our "girls" this past Wednesday. I have one each of partridge rock, easter egger, rhode island red, Delaware, silver laced wayandotte, and a buff orpington. They are 15 weeks old! We LOVE them! So far 3 will eat out of my hand and two of those 3 will let me "pet" them. Love watching them! They are the highlight of my days now! Totally open to any advice! One current concern....My intentions were to have a mobile tractor but I still do not have wheels on it. Any advise for the chicken poop smell that seems to be starting????

! Pleased you joined us! Moving the tractor will help with the smell...can it be dragged along the ground even without wheels? Sand in the run seems to help as well. Good luck to you and have fun with your flock!

It is so heavy...dragging really isn't possible. Its actually allot heavier than I wanted it. It took 3 men on the coop end and me and another female on the lighter end just to get it in the spot we wanted. Its nice but very heavy. My husband is concerned we wont even be able to get wheels on it that can handle the weight. A friend made it for me but I am clueless about construction...whatever its made of is HEAVY...LOL! I'm thinking I need to come up with a back up plan in case it ends up being stationary.

Welcome to BYC! If that is the permanent location I would suggest sand as the flooring material. It is pretty easy to rake the poop from the top of the sand.
