Hi my name is ashelee and I live just outside Myrtle Beach, SC. My husband and I just bought our first little chicks a little over a week ago. We bought 3 comet pullets. I've been lurking around for the past week looking for answers to some questions I had before actually joining and posting here. It's been very interesting watching them grow so far for the week. They are already getting bigger and wings are larger. They eat a TON of food (went through a 5 pound bag already). Also seems like they are starting to determine who's boss and such. Anyone else with comets? I would love to see pictures! I will try and post some of mine if I can figure it out from my phone.

Congrats on the new babies! They sure are fun to watch. Chick TV! You just can't look away.

Enjoy your new chicks. If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask around the forums. Welcome to our flock!

Hi and welcome to our flock!

So glad you could join BYC! Congratulations on your new chicks. The Golden Comet is an excellent breed that has a reputation for very good egg production and a docile temperament. I'm sure you'll continue to enjoy them.

Yes, they certainly eat a lot of feed! My chicks in the spring go through several 50 lb bags of feed rapidly. You'd be surprised how much adult laying hens can gobble down each day, too.

I haven't kept Comets myself, but lots of other people on here have. If you want to read more about them and see the opinions of others, you may want to check out the Red Sex-Link breed reviews (Red Sex-Link is another name for Golden Comets): Red Sex Link

Welcome to our community and good luck with your flock!

Welcome to BYC, Ashelee! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Congrats on your golden comet pullets! They sure grow up fast, don't they?! Always amazes me how fast they grow AND how much food they eat! Sounds like they are sorting out the pecking order. Although not much fun to watch, this is necessary thing that they must do to determine who is going to be the "queen." I myself don't keep any golden comets but there are many people here that do. If you peck around I'm sure you'll find some people to share pics and advice with

These are the trio. They are about 3 weeks old now I guess. Starting to look kind of crazy with their random feathers coming in!
