Hello Friends,
Im totally new here and TOTALLY NEW to chickens too! We just got, like yesterday, 3- 9 week old chickens for our new Costco coop. I know, Costco, BUT it's a great coop we think ;) We got an Americana, Rhode Island Red, and a Black Star. The Black Star seems to be the nicest but they are all really nice and my 2 children ages 6 and 4 are really taken with them, for now ;) So far things are great! Just trying to remind everyone to wash their hands after they hold them and also to be sure the dog is locked inside when they are let out in the backyard. Excited to learn more!!!

Smiles,
Courtney

The learning center is located here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center You are lucky the pullets are friendly, they must have been raised around people. If there is anything that the learning center doesn't answer for you, don't hesitate to let me, or any one of the knowledgeable people on here know, and we'll do our best to help you

Welcome to BYC, Coutney! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Congrats on your new chicks! You've picked some great breeds to start with. You'll be getting lots of eggs once they reach the appropriate ages. Costco is a great store! We shop there all the time and I've seen their coops. They are pretty nice.

Yes always wash hands after touching chickens. And keep the dog away. Dogs and chickens are not good together and things rarely go good.

Definitely check out our learning center! Tons of helpful info there. (@backyardflock1 has left you with the link.) Here is a good article to read as well. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/raising-chicks-frequently-asked-questions-and-answers

Good luck!
