I went to pick up a coop yesterday and the seller had a trio in the back that he was trying to place. I ended up with all 3 but here is the issue.

The 2 pullets are both tandem brooding a very large clutch of eggs. Since they were in a nesting box already, he simply picked up the whole thing and put it inf my van and they never got off of the eggs at all.

I have no experience with broodiness or hatching but when I check on them after I had moved them into my yard I noticed that among about 25+ eggs that they are sitting on together, there is a TON of poop in the nesting box as well.... like A LOT of terrible stinky old poop! I can take a photo if you all want to see it BUT... what do I do? Do I leave the little chicks to hatch in the piles of poop? or do I try to just clean what I can from the side and hope not to get pecked? I've watched all morning and 1 got off of the eggs but the other didn't.... they trade you see. Not a big deal? or chick drowning in poop?

What a mess! Do you have any idea how long these eggs have been incubated? I wonder if they are really the same clutch, or whether eggs were added after the clutch started incubation.

Both hens are probably not going to leave the nest at the same time, but if they did I'd jump in then, take the eggs out, dump the nasty nest, and put the eggs back in a fresh nest. If it was me, I'd probably put on the heavy gloves, take the hens off, and clean it all up. It's not just poop, either. There's no telling what kind of mites, etc. could be in that bedding.

Do you want to try to hatch out all these chicks?

p.s. don't forget about quarantining these new birds for a month or so.
