I have around 10 chicks that I got 2 months ago. 2 ended up being fairly large Leghorns, much bigger than the others. Well, the little ones pecked one to death and now they are working on the other one. I have the injured one in my dogs crate and the others really did a number on its backside. I'm gonna let the others out with my other chickens this weekend. Should I keep the injured one in the house alone until he or she fully heals and what can I put on its wounds?

Thanks

Chicks can pick, if they are bored or crowded. Once they draw blood, they can continue until the result is virtual cannibalism. The answer lies in a large brooding area, with lots of space and things for them to pick and peck besides each other. I find a red light more subdued and a white light aggravates the behaviors.

I assume your chicks are older, more like 8-10 weeks of age? Are they in the grass? Do they have a large, interesting run? More information about how they live would be helpful in giving guidance.

I'm at work at the moment so I'll post a pic in the am. They have pretty much taken over my indoor porch area so I'm not sure space is an issue but they are going outside on Sat and they'll have plenty of room. Anything I can put on the injured ones wounds?

you can use red brooder lights to prevent it or remove the more agressive ones
