One ofmy eggs pipped yesterday ..Day 31. YAY... As of this AM, 24 hours later, he has made no progress. I peeled back the shell from the pipped area and moved the membrane slightly and he finally got is beak part way out. He is breathing but does not squeek.
My bator humidity is 79 but I think he is stuck. The pip is in the middle of the egg and he was sitting upside down in the bator. ......
The membrane is very thick and white.
Here is what I have done so far. I peeled off some of the shell around the pipped area being careful not to disturb the membrane and I wrapped the egg in a warm damp rag and put him back in the bator on his side with his beak side up. I plan to leave him alone for a while but am not sure at what point I should intervene further. I did not zip the egg because I am afraid of disturbing the membrane and him bleeding to death.
Advice Please. I don't want him to die in his egg.

I have just had to help a little duckling who pipped the wrong end of the egg.. It terrible to feel so helpless - but it sounds like you have done the right thing for now. If ever I help a hatchling- I will pick a little shell- and leave them for at least an hour before assisting any further. If I ever disrupt any veins I will leave them a little longer before any further help. I always have a small torch handy to try to see into the egg where possble to check for the absorbsion of the blood from the veins.

Are there any other eggs in the incubator? Opening the bator too often to help this little one will effect humidity and possibly compromise the hatching of others.

There are two others...One is moving but not pipped. I spray the other eggs anytime I open the bator. I am going to wait a bit longer and then finish zipping the egg but I won't distub the membrane. Then I will put him back and see if he can help himself. He is not squeeking and I am afraid he is weak....Is this the right thing to do??? I am so afraid I will kill him.

I used to just pick shell to help them- but have now learnt how to crush the shell around the egg with my fingernail so they only have to break through the membrane with their pushing to get out

I also always spray the eggs with a mister any time I open the incubator. If the other egg has not pipped yet- maybe this little one hasnt finished absorbing the yolk fully yet either. Give it some time. The little one I just helped is very quiet too... And weak- but yes at least still alive- it hasnt finished absorbing all the yolk yet so is still partially in the egg and resting. It is of course natures way to ensure only the strongest survive- but it is too heartbreaking not to do something to help them.

How is he doing? I also have a gosling who I think may be stuck. I hatch them in a still air, and I never have problems with the humdity, except this time. It kept dropping and it looks like he dried out. I took some pieces of the shell away and there is no blood or veins left on the membrane. I took a wet q tip and stuck in in the egg, to hopefully moisten him up so he can hatch out by himself. Ill check in a bit to see if the gosling moved at all.

I'm so glad to hear that you at least have a PIP! That is wonderful news. I have been following you along and I know you were terribly worried that they all died.

I would help the little gosling if its stuck. But be very careful. If you see any blood at all, please stop and wait a little longer. Just chip away at the shell a little bit. If the membrane is stuck then put your finger in some warm water and moisten it. I think the goal for now should be to at least get the nostrils free and clear so the gosling can breathe and to make sure she is not stuck. Then, see if she can hatch the rest of the way on her own.
