I have a four week old standard cochin chick that I discovered two days ago had a severely swollen crop. I decided to keep an eye on her and see if the crop size would go down. However, it has not gone down for three days now. Should I keep feeding her the chick starter food? Should I give her olive oil to help whatever is in the crop pass? When I massaged it today it was soft and squishy and felt as if she had ingested some pine shavings and that they were the cause of the swelling. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!

Does anyone have any advice. I would really really appreciate all of your expertise!!!!

Pull the food out overnight and see how it looks in the morning. If it's still swollen in the a.m. you'll probably need to treat for impacted/sour crop. Do the chicks currently have access to grit? If they don't you should get them some. I haven't had to treat an impacted crop here yet, but I think small bits of bread soaked in olive oil and some ACV in the water is the reccomended starting point for treating it. Good luck with her!
