Hi guys, my first time putting something on a forum... I have 4 chooks, Whinnie, Nera, Pebbles and Pru. Intially built a lovely run with a coop and girlies until now been happy. Since having the girls I've realised I was focusing on fox intrusion and totally didn't think about rats and now I have a problem. Anyway I am relocating the coop/run designing.. putting the hen House itself on slabs(something I probably should of done from start) with chippings and trying to make them happier and healthier with dust baths etc. Also when this is built will take away food at night to deter rats. So I've got 6 ft posts (60mm) for new run, ordered chicken wire, my partner insists these should be concreted in..is this in your experience the case?

The posts to be set in concrete? are they t-posts or wood? I wouldn't find that necessary for t-posts , but I would get longer posts no matter since the bottom 12 inches are buried. chickens can fly over 5 foot fence easy (at least mine can) unless you clip their wings.
Remember to add an apron (2 ish feet of fencing on the ground) to the bottom out side of your fence to prevent digging.

Might depend on your coop design and your climate.
Got any sketches of your coop plans that you can post?
What kind of "slabs"....poured concrete?

Oh, and.... Welcome to BYC! @KellyM25

It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
