Hello,

Just wondered if anyone could help. I am about to apply for a graduate scheme where by I have to submit an idea for a TV series. I was thinking of submitting an idea for a series/documentary that demonstrates the importance and wonderful nature of showing. I think a large percentage of the UK are unaware that they take place and being fond of livestock myself I think a series that follows passionate participants would teach a great deal. Please could anyone sum up briefly why showing is so important to them? If you don't mind I would quote this in my application form.

Many Thanks

Hmm....Here in Ohio in the United States, there is a poultry show called "The Ohio National". It's in our state capital, Columbus Ohio. Anyhow, my husband and I attend the show every year for around 5 years now, and each year I am amazed at the beauty of the chickens shown there.

In my humble opinion, showing is very important to really demonstrate the breed standard for each breed. Breed standard is a very specific description of all the physical traits a certain breed should have.

IT's truly wonderful and amazing to see chickens, ducks, game birds, turkeys, oh you name it! It's also great for kids to learn about breed standards and the rewards of caring for animals.

That's why it's important to me. Now, I love the barnyard mixed variety just as much as the pure breeds, but, like a fingerprint, the look of a pure breed is just so beautiful and unique. LIke looking at a flower......Just lovely!

Hope this helps a little bit.
