My hens have just hatched babys i have 4 roosters and 9 hens all of my hens are sitting on 8 babys except for 2 . each time i go to the barn i see babys dead . they have been pecked on the head some little some worse i have lost 2 babys today and it wasnt even a hour at most since i was outside looking at them. The hens didnt mind me holding them i only held one. But ,I dont know what to do . I moved one hen who looked like she was taking care of them the most in a different pen and all 7 babys. Do i need to feed them anything special or water protein mix. Or could it be a disease ? The other babys look healthy but always under there mom.

Thank you im new at this chicken business..

Maybe you should make a brooder and get them away from the grown chickens. Sounds like one of the grown chickens are going to kill them off one by one. Some chickens are just not good with chicks.

I think your right about removing the rooster from the equation, he might have been abusing the chicks. It wouldn't hurt to put electrolyte mix in their water. I would definitely keep them seperated from the rest of the flock. I've always had my broody in a seperate space from the flock, so that's all the advice I can give you. Maybe an experienced member will post something. I hope things work out for you.

Thanks I have one hen with them in a cage were they can walk around, but this is my 2 batch of eggs and there's more this time because my first batch was only r
