I am a new chicken owner. The kindergarten class at the school I work at recently hatched chicks and I am now raising them. One of the chicks seems to have an infected anus. There is clear/white discharge coming out of the anus and all of the plumage under the chick is wet and matted, I'm assuming from the discharge. I wash it with warm water daily and apply an antibiotic but I don't know if it is getting any better. I have not seen its feces and it is always standing away from the others shaking slightly and seemingly trying to sleep. Should I move it away from the others? Anyone have an idea of what it is or could be? What should I do? :( any advice please

This is what it looks like

and... it will not lay down to sleep it either stands or trys to perch on top of the others to keep the butt up

They are a week old and I think it's been like this for a few days... Any advice?

Personally I would cull the chick myself especially if it has not shown any signs of getting better. Poor baby has to be miserable :-( You could try a med in the water and see if that helps. I don't think there is much you can do though.

It looks like the chick has bird butt. Meaning it is constipated probably from the food. What I would suggest doing is taking some warm water and try to loosen the poop stuck in its behind by gently dipping its anus into warm water for a few minutes then gently squeeze the anus. I had the same thing happen too, two of my chicks one died one lived. Hope this helps
