We started out with 9 eggs. One got the red halo and you couldn't see the veins so we tossed it (this was a few weeks ago). We now have 8 eggs and so far 3 have hatched. The second one that hatched seems to have a bulge that I think is the unabsorbed yolk but it looks like the umbilical is wrapped around it? He was stuck on his back but is now currently laying on his side and his legs are shaking a bit. It also looks like his one leg got caught in the dark goop. Should I try to help? If so, what do I do??

This is the best picture I can get at the moment because I don't want to open the incubator since we still have 4 more eggs in the process of hatching and 1 more that doesn't seem to have piped yet.

These guys just helped me with a similar but less urgent situation.
Thank you. I hope I can save him. So far the other 2 are acting "normal" (wobbly and tired after hatching) and another is close to hatching. I know last year we had a deformed baby that we ended up having to put down and I really hope that this year (minus the one egg already) we can get the rest to survive.

Also we believe they are about a week early. They were already piping while they were on the automatic turner when I caught them last night and took them off and misted them really well before closing the incubator again. I have been in a nervous mom mode just because I dont want them to get shrink wrapped in their eggs but I had to take them off of the automatic turner so they wouldnt get hurt.

All I see is a small spot of yolk on the abdomen.

The brown goop is wastes from pooping in it's eggshell.

If it's still absorbing, get a bowl or something that you can lie him in replacement of his shell. Place warm towels in the bowl so whatever is absorbed doesn't get stuck on anything around. Place it back in the incubator and give him time. It should absorb what is left of the yolk sac. As for the umbilical cord, I can't say as I've never had one wrapped around a sac that made it to hatch. They usually died before they could pip. Being in that egg turner is possibly why it happened, not blaming you or anything. I've just heard you aren't suppose to turn them when on lock down or when pipped as it can end up twisting the ducklings when they hatch. (Not sure how true it is, but it's the only thing I can think of.)

I can't get a better picture unless I open the incubator and handle the baby. I dont want to hurt it or risk the ones that haven't fully hatched yet.

Is it ok that his one leg went through the goop and is caught? and there is what I believe to be the umbilcal (small white string from the egg to the duckling) that is wrapped around the yolk. He also hasn't righted himself yet. But is laying on his side.

My little guy (or girl, hopefully girl) was attached to a ball of goop til it ripped off, all that's left is 3 inches of umbelical cord and the duckling is hopping around the incubator perfectly fine now. She was laying on her side for awhile after hatching but has since gotten up and become quite the cheerleader for the other ducklings.

The yolk doesn't look to have anything wrapped around it since it's just a small amount.

The Umbilical cord can be cut close to the eggshell.

The yolk is here.

We werent expecting them to hatch already and were unable to get them off before they started hatching. My mom candled the eggs towards the end of last week and it didnt look like they were just days away from hatching. I know your not blaming me but I think you may be right as to why he is like this. The poop sac and umbilical are still stuck to the egg but he is fully out of the egg. So I am not sure how to place him in the bowl.
