Hello, I have a red star chicken and a few days ago I noticed she had a bulge in the corner of her beak. I looked at it, and it’s soft, so it isn’t part of the beak. I looked in her mouth and her tongue is yellowish. I think it’s some sort of fungal infection. Her name is Lady Luck. She has a reputation to being lucky, because she survived a dog attack and sickness.

Thank you for your time!

Canker usually develops a bad or rotten odor. Canker is treated with Aqua Zole (metronidazole) 250 mg given orally daily for 5 days. Acidified copper sulfate can be used to treat others 3 days a month to help prevent canker. Dosage is 1/4 tsp per gallon of water. I would also recommend disinfecting all feeders and waterers with 10% bleach water. Separate the bird with symptoms.

Other diseases that cause yellow or whitish gunk inside the beak are wet fowl pox and fungus/yeast infection. Those usually don’t have the rotten odor.

Thank you so much! I will separate her from the rest of flock. Do you know if there is any natural remedies in case I can’t find the medicine? I will update!
