Hi everyone! It's my first time to incubate chicken eggs and I'm working from home so I can't help but think about the eggs all the time. I tried candling one of the eggs on Day 2 and I found a circle of blood at the center. What do you think is it? I need your opinions.

That one is alive. Be extremely careful touching them, even the slightest bump could detach the embryo at this stage.
Don't toss any unless you're positive they're dead either, wait at least ten days before tossing any.

The picture isn't super sharp. Can you see little veins or lines running from the center? The shadow in the center looks like a fetus to me. I am currently on day 21 with a batch and this was one of my eggs days 2-5 where the heart formed.

I would just put the egg back and wait a day or two! :)

Oh my. I already tossed it since the incubator was too crowded. It has an automatic roller and some of the eggs weren't rolled properly because of it. I really thought it was a blood ring since I couldn't see any veins in it. Just a pool of blood. Looks like I made a bad call :((

Wow. Your Day 5 looks really nice. I'm on Day 7 now and I can only see a big black spot. Looks like the eye to me.

Anyway, here's a video of the egg. I couldn't see any veins inside the ring so I discarded it. One user here said that it was alive. :(

You can't feel too bad. It's a learning curve and they can be so hard to tell!
It definitely is. Thanks for the response. I thought no one will answer me here.

Anyway, about the egg with the "eye," when I try to turn the egg when candling, it just stays on one side but it's jiggly on its spot. Do you think it's dead? It's grown bigger than yesterday though.

i really want to see when they hatch!
Things are looking bad as of now. :(

Do you happen to know if it's dead when a "dark circle" does not move around when I turn it? It just remains on one side but it jiggles when I turn it.

This is how the dark circle looks like:

This might help you. Start the video at 4:50 to see the embryo developing. (the first 5 minutes are how to set up a shell-less egg thing, something I will never attempt)

It's a beautifully clear video of a shell-less egg (the chick lives!!) so you can see day by day what's going on without the pesky shell in the way. That might help you better visualize what's happening in the more opaque eggs.
