I added 2 new chicks to my flock today. One I just noticed had blood in her stool. I've been watching h for the past 30 min to see if it was a one time thing but nothing else yet.
She was panting at first but now has found the water bowl and is sleeping. What does this mean???!?!

this is a classic sign of coccidosis. treat with CORID asap! corid kills all 9strains of cocci. time is of essence. you can find corid or amprolium at the feed store. this will cure her cocci. treat all chicks . hope this helps. coccidosis is a protozoa. you can look it up online. but I'd hurry with the corid. it will really help. best wishes.

How old is your chick? If panting under heat lamps, that usually means you need to check your temperatures and they might be too hot. Hopefully the brooder is large enough where they can get away from the heat.

Realsis is right- it sounds like coccidiosis, which is an emergency. They can die within 24 hours from it.

I give my chicks corid when they get coccidiosis- I use 9.5 ml of the Corid 9.6% solution (in the cattle section of the feed store) per gallon of drinking water, for 5 days. I mix a new solution daily and don't give vitamins at the same time, since it is a thiamine blocker. The bloody poos should be gone after 24 hours from my experience. I treat all the chickens who have been exposed to the poo of the sick one.

Look up coccidiosis:

Here is the poo page. Especially as the chickens get older, you may see the normal shed intestinal lining that is mushy blood looking, not liquid blood. Also it describes the normal caecal poo which appears as a diarrhea-type poo but is normal every 8th poo or so.

The post w pics was perfect, thank you. I found some weird looking poop this morning, my chicks are 9 weeks, I've never had chickens before, and I have no idea what is normal. They were looser than I'm used to and redder, but the pics post has me thinking to just keep an eye on them and be sure it's within normal range.

I guessing she is around 3 days. The panting has stopped and I don't see any more blood in her stool. She just pooped regular like all my other ones have been.
The brooder is a 3x1 1/2 I have it at about 95 but they are still all bottled up near the side with the heat. The other side of the brooder is around 85.

If her poop is better should I still get the medicine or only If I see blood again? At the moment they are all cuddled up together.
