im sure this topic has been addressed, but i am not having luck finding past posts!
I have a hen that has gone broody, and wont eat or drink!
How can I get her to do this??
And has anyone ever given a broody hen a fertilized egg to hatch?
I do not have a rooster so the eggs she is sittin on obviously will rot!
And lastly, where the heck can I purchase a fertilized egg for her?
thanks!

Hi there there is acutions on BYC for fertilized eggs. You can also break your hen from being broody there is lots of info if you search. Does she not eat when you put the food in front of her? Yes lots of people put fertile eggs under hens. Maybe cook her up hard boiled eggs or scrambled she might gobble them up

she wont eat or drink even though I put it right in front of her! she attacks me also!
Great idea about cooking her an egg! I know she will eat it, although i gave her some sweet white corn which is like crack to her and she didnt touch it!

Yes they will attack you. They make all sorts of weird noises mine pecks me OUCH. How long has she been sitting? My girls come out everyday for 10-15 min they eat drink do a hugh poop They about day 18 they dont move because she knows the chicks are coming I have 3 broody hens right now

she has been sitting constantly for almost 24 hours, but started guarding the eggs about 3 days ago.
I did take a couple away, and since yesterday I havent taken any.
I kind of feel bad for her and want her to be able to hatch babies, but I dont have a rooster!
and if I order eggs they may not arrive while she is still broody!

http://www.belthatchery.com/ in your area, as well as her, to get eggs from. If you want to hatch some. If you wish to break her broodiness. You may want to put her in a cage with food and water. Away from those nests to bring her out of that state.

She will get off the nest now and then to defecate and replenish. Feel her crop and see if it has food. That indicates she is eating well. If not, take her out and let her eat and drink so she has energy.
