Help, Buckeye Rooster chest only has pin feathers!

All the feathers are gone from top of his neck down his chest. The 8 hens & he are 2-1/2 yrs. old. What's wrong?

Hello and Welcome To BYC! If he has pin feathers coming in, it sounds like he is in the middle of doing a hard molt, most older birds will molt in the fall, hopefully he is just a little ahead of the game, here is a nice article on molting

The skin should not be red during a molt. There might be something else going on that he lost all his feathers. You might want to post a pic here or in the emergency section for more input.

X2 the skin should be red while the chicken is molting.

the hens may be plucking him clean - they do outnumber him. He may also have some skin infection going on or mites. It's too bad you couldn't "lie in wait," and see what they girls are doing to him.
