Help! Can I adopt an adult and add her to my pullet flock?

I have 8 pullets that are about 8 weeks old. Can I adopt my friends 2 year old hen and add to my flock? I have heard concerns of disease. She is a healthy lonely bird that is just hanging out in his back yard. He has only had the one and she has always been alone.

If your friend is giving her away, then I guess you can adopt her. With your small flock and her isolated life I wouldn't worry too much about quarantine, it is just a small chance you'll have to risk. I would keep them separate for a couple of weeks where they can see and interact without actually mingling.
