HELP CHICK HATCHING

So I have a bantam silkie mixed with Plymouth Rock egg I belive this is day 20 and I hear the chick making big strong cheap noises when I pick up the egg. I do have a silke chickens sitting in it. Our eggs have thick shells and I’m worried the chick won’t be able to crack open the egg. Should I help it or just leave it or is there something I can do to help it hatch

Don't help it. It is still absorbing the yolk and if you try to help it might not have absorbed it all and could die. I tried to help two chicks before and that happened to me. Just be patient it'll hatch lol

It is fine. Chicks normally cheep while in the egg. The hens usually cluck back to them too.

It should be just fine, just let it do its thing and check up on it in a few hours I know it can be a hard wait, I'm waiting for 3 eggs to hatch right now!

So the little chick hatched and it’s very healthy but none of our hens will take it in so it’s mom is now a stuffed animal

Glad it turned out OK....even if it is a little orphan right now. Are there any other chicks due to keep him company? If not, you need to try and source him a friend or two xx

Monkeying with an egg when its starting to hatch is a sure fire way to kill the chick within. Let that baby do its thing. Chicks should spend the time after lockdown to properly position themselves to hatch. I am not an egg or even an egg head but I imagine it is very difficult for a baby chicken to keep up with which end is which when well meaning folks keep spinning him or her around and around while simultaneously blinding the poor chick with the bright light from a candling device.

First baby chicks don't crack open an egg. Cracking an egg is what you and I do to cook breakfast. In fact baby chicks don't even peck their way out of an egg. Chicks cut their way out of their natal home using the only tooth that any chicken will ever have, their eggtooth. To accomplish this feat the peep must first position it's head under its Right wing, not its Left wing but its Right one. That insures that the egg tooth is positioned correctly to cut the eggshell half in two from the inside while the chick spins inside of the egg..
