Well, I've been cleaning poo off of one of my little 1 day old chicks bootie every few hours today. This poor little thing is eating, drinking and pooing... seems to be fine except that it has the tiniest vent. It's like a tiny little red pin hole and when it poos the poo just gushes all over its little bootie giving it a pasty butt. I don't mind cleaning up after it if there is hope that it's vent might, I don't know, just need a little time to "develop" or something. But I can't help thinking that this might just be wishful thinking on my part.
I can try to get a picture of it... but it's soooo small I doubt much can be seen with my crappy (no pun intended) digital camera.
Anyone out there ever experience something like this?
I need some words of experience and wisdom here... I've searched the site and couldn't find anything.

I'm glad to hear from someone about this... have you had chicks with this issue grow up and live happy normal lives?
I'm really pleased to hear that it might have a chance.

I will do that... I'm sure the little chick will appreciate that...

Let me know how it works for you. Usually about 10 days or so it stops. Hope your baby is ok and lives a long healthy life

Keep us updated becuase this is how we all learn about new things like this. I have never heard of it but interested to see how it turns out. Good luck!

Yes I have. The chick was hatched with other issues to and is now a bowl legged limping silkie roo who crowed for the first time after 8 months. No wonder it wasn't laying eggs.

Should be fine. Just keep it clean and I am sure it will all work out in the end

When mine get like this I apply mineral oil to the vent, and if it gets really pasted up just hold a towel with warm (not hot) water up against it for a minute or so. As long as stuff is coming out the chick should be fine.

Just wanted to update that our little chick, "Squirt", seems to be doing great. Thankfully this one is no longer needing the multiple daily bootie clean-ups... I think "Squirt" is happier about this than even I am. I still can't see much of a vent, it really is the weirdest thing (I wish I could get a decent picture), and feathering seems to be stalled out on the backend... but everything seems to be working fine... eating, drinking, pooing, playing.

I'm very hopeful now.

I have had those with barely visible vents. Trust me. When they grow, it makes not difference, the poop is HUGE.
