Today around 4am in the morning we woke up to hear one of our chickens screaming. I ran out and saw her stuck between the fences in our run. I opened the coop door and there were feathers everywhere! When I looked at her I looked like she only scratch on her leg but when I picked her up and lifted up her wing there was a big wound there.. I separated her from the other chickens but she is laying in one spot and sometimes screaming but the good news is she's eating and drinking. I covered up the wound and cleaned it and if she makes it what should I do? Do I wait until her feathers grow back and what predator would attack the chicken there was no holes in the run or coop! Right now we blocked off the run from the coop hoping that will protect the other chickens..

I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this. Keeping her warm, not hot, and in a quiet secure place will help. Keeping her hydrated will also help. Keeping the wound clean with some veterycin spray or something similar is a great idea. Adding some electrolytes and poultry vitamins may help too. As you see there is no set in stone answer. Could you possible post a few pics of the wound. Also it sounds like something tried to pull her through the fence...electric wires may be a good idea to invest in now. No holes should be larger then one inch.

Thank you for your answer tomorrow I will take a few pictures of the wound.

Also when do I let her free? Is it until her feather heal back?
I'd wait until she is healed...you don't want the other chickens pecking her wound and making it worse.

You may need to flush it with saline to remove the maggots. Good thing is maggots eat dead decaying flesh, not healthy flesh. Cover her head to make her calmer to work on. Saline in a squeeze bottle works great. Once you remove the maggots, put a good coat of blu kote or equivalent on her to seal up the wound and keep the others from pecking at it when she eventually joins the flock. Best wishes for a speedy recovery

Maggots start out eating decaying flesh, but if not treated you can bet the farm they'll go after healthy flesh too. It's called flystrike and can kill a chicken. Clean it out very thoroughly, you'll have to pick out all the maggots. Search "flystrike" on here for how to clean properly. You want to a)keep her in the house until it's scabbed over well or b) cover the would with a lot of antibiotic (without "caine" pain killer) to keep flies from laying eggs in the wound.

Update the maggots disappeared and the next day we found more baby maggots! We are treating her but tonight there was another attack but we saved her right in time before damage could be done. She stinks i don't know if it's the poop or the flesh and I heard that it's a sign of a infection. But some how the smell went away the next day I think it was the poop stinkin. She doesn't like to move around she likes to say in one spot so sense she doesn't move she doesn't eat or drink and been pooping green. What we are doing is giving her spoon of water and food and she is eating and drinking fine!
