i just found one of my hens laying out in the chicken pen laying down with flies all over her she was somewhat unresponsive only opening her eyes when I came to pick her up. She didn’t look physically injured at all no feathers no bleeding nothing. I brought her inside and she is just laying in my sink sleeping but she won’t stand and won’t drink. Here’s a picture.

Bring her inside and give electrolyte water or several drops of Poultry NutriDrench carefully if she is awake enough to swallow. If she seems hot, place her legs into some cool, not freezing water. She could have been injured or become dehydrated and suffered a heatstroke.

Update I did give her electrolytes but shortly after she just gave up and died. It’s one of the strangest chicken deaths I’ve had. Her body seemed to be fine but there could have been internal damages or abnormalities that caused her death.

Can you double wrap her in 2 clean garbage bags, and keep her cool, but not frozen in the refrigerator. You may call your state vet early tomorrow to check about getting a necropsy to look for a cause of death. You can deliver the body or a label emailed to you to send her body via Fedex or UPS. If you think it may have been heat related, and I would make sure all of your chickens are getting plenty of cool water, and add some electrolytes for a day or two. Sorry for your loss.
