Hi there, I have an opportunity to get 3 grown danish leghorn layers for $40, but I was going to get buff orphingtons and a dominique pullets. I need advice. Should I get them instead of the pullets, I am not familiar with the breed temperment, and would be using them for laying hens. For some reason I can't just forget about it and not seriously consider getting them... I'm wondering if it's my budding addiction or something bigger, like fate!

So I guess I'm asking if the breed is worth the $40 compared to buff orphingtons and dominiques.

How does getting mature birds compare to having pullets?

What is the status of the Danish Leghorn since I can't find them on the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy's list, just leghorns.

How would I introduce them to my 5 week old pullets?

Thank you in advance.

Most leghorns will be flighty and not as doscile as BO's. However, 40 isn't bad for 3 layers IF they are not 3+ years old. I have white leghorns and they lay like crazy. However, price on birds will depend on local market and what goes for 5 in one area can go for 25 in another.

As for intergrating young chicks, I enoucrage you to search "introducing chicks/hens/bids/" or intergrating flocks.

You'll have to wait till they are all the same size before putting them together.
