Hi everyone.

Im having an issue and Im VERY concerned about it.

I have a total of 10 assorted chickens and ducks ranging from 3 weeks to 2 months of age.

The 2 month olds are outside in their coop overnight and are just fine.

Now , I have ( 1 ) 6 week old Favorelle Roo and ( 1 ) Partridge Rock hen who seem to be bonded.

I also have ( 1 ) .3 week old White - Crested Black Polish unknown yet if hen or roo ,

(1) 3 week old Silver - Laced Wyndotte Hen,

and

( 1) 3 week old Black Jersey Giant Hen.

These 3 babies all arrived VERY healthy and happy from Backyardchickens.com, which I HIGHLY recommend ordering baby chicks from if you need only 3 at a time..!

My Problem and Major Concern, is for the Well-Being of my Jersey Giant.

It seems that the Wyndotte and Polish have bonded too, leaving her without a " little chicken friend " to hang around and cuddle with !

Of all babies, the Polish seems to be "bullying" the Giant by purposely walking right over to her and " step " on her while she is sleeping, pecking at her and chasing her !

No blood has been drawn, but the Giant was limping for a few days but no longer.

However, she just lays around all day and sleeps. She does get up and eat and drink, but not NEAR as much as the other 2..I swear they are so hyper..LOL.

It looks like she is desperately trying to " bond " with the other 2 but they just ignore her.

She sleeps alone .

Ive tried putting her in with my Favorelle roo and Partridge rock hen, hoping THEY would "adopt" her...No luck..

They dont seem to want to hurt her, just ignore her.

I have a 14 yr old son who is a TOTAL " Chicken Magnet ", and all around animal lover.

The Giant just Adores him and she will sit and sleep on his lap all day if she could..

Last night we put a little toy " cat" that has batteries , purrs and " breathes, in an attempt to help her feel like she has a little friend to cuddle with.

Ok..

We are VERY concerned for her.

I would Love to get another little chick for her, but I cant find ANYWHERE where I can get just 1 baby !!

My questions are :

is she depressed because everyone else has " Paired Up "

or is this the Normal Behavior of a Jersey Giant since they are very Docile and Friendly ??

I am in dire need of a baby chick , ( Any breed ), AND, I need another Chicken Coop for up to 10 birds , ASAP !!! because the people we were to get another coop from, SOLD the one they built for my Older babies

who are supposed to be outside NOW, but Now are back "inside" ..

If there is ANYONE who can help me ?

I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, along Lake Superior.

Im willing to travel around Northern Wisconsin, Minnesota, anywhere around this area to pick up a Baby Chick and Coop !

Thanks all,

Deirdre

Since you have seen the polish picking on her- separate the polish for a while and see if she and your Wyandotte bond. Every year when I hatch chicks I seem to have one little baby that doesn't like to be with the flock. Its usually the docile one that isn't interested in figuring out the whole pecking order thing. Good luck with your baby, hope everything sorts itself out soon!

Awww that sounds so sad. I would want to get another chick as well to see if that helps. I hope it works out for her, she sounds so sweet.
