On April 20th, I noticed a duck making daily trips to a bush in front of my house and I’m assuming she was laying eggs at that point. A cat discovered her spot and ended up scaring her away. She never returned. On May 4th, about 5 days after she left, I purchased an incubator and retrieved the 8 eggs.
Since the beginning, I’ve noticed that when candeling the eggs, half the egg is a reddish color and half is more white (see attached photo). I’ve also never noticed any real distinct veins. I do see a dark colored circle in the center, right up against the shell (see other attached photo) The air cells do seem to be progressing and getting larger.
In addition to if you think the eggs are still alive, I have a few questions:
1. Is it normal that half the egg is white and half is red?
2. What exactly is the dark colored circle in the center of the egg? The embryo? Is it normal to see that this many days into the process?
3. Do this air cells still progress if the egg isn’t alive?
Thanks for your help, really hoping at least some of these survive!
