I have a rir rooster and he has been acting strange for the last week or so, it has gotten worse and I'm at a loss and need some help...
Symptoms now: loss of feathers, maybe a little weight, kinda drunk acting..stumbles, not eating that much or drinking, sleeping a lot. I have him secluded in a kennel in the coop with food and some Gatorade mixed with water. He did eat a little yogurt that I have him yesterday, but it doesn't appear he has drank or ate much since then. None of the other chickens have symptoms. He is not really pooping either he has been in the kennel for 24 hours and I didn't find any feces in the kennel as of this morning. Just before he went in the kennel yesterday I was able to check a small portion of fresh feces from him and there wasn't anything noticeable in it. My chickens have never been wormed, and they are about 1 1/2 years old.
He is my best buddy and I will be very sad if he doesn't make it, I at least would like to know I tried.

Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated, thanks
P.s my avatar is him in a much healthier time:')

It could be a combination of things. I would guess mites as far as the feather loss goes, but it would be odd that it's not effecting the others. The rest of his symptoms seem like Avian Encephalitis. Some one gave me a link to great chart that helps diagnose common poultry illness. Check it out, there's a couple of nifty charts at the bottom of the page :)

Thanks for replying!!! I took him to my friend who is a farm/large animal vet tech and she gave him some broad spec antibiotics and some ear drops.. Thinking more now it could be an ear infection that just went on to long...his ears are a bit swollen I think and one was almost completely full of gunk... I have 2 more of the shots to give him tomorrow night but he was already eating his pellet yogurt mash I had given him when we got home!!! So I was excited:) I, nor any chicken/bird person I know has ever had a bird with an ear infection... I would be the first around here... Thank for your comments I will update with changes :)

Thanks for the link!! I don't think it's avian encephalitis... He doesn't have any paralysis... But we will see what the treatment does.. And encephalitis progresses fast, he has been this way with no change for at least a week..... Here's to crossing my fingers and toes!!!!!

I gave him his second dose of shots tonight and he looked soooo much better!! still a little wobbly but he fought me!!! Yay!!! Lol and didn't pass out the entire time... We had to cover his head with a towel so he would hold still enough for the shots.... :)

For sure!!! He wouldn't stop crowing in the basement since 5am, so I just put him back in the coop.. Haha his balance isn't completely back yet but he is eating pooing and drinking:) and even though unsuccessful, trying to mount his hens!! Haha he needs all his balance back first lol
