One hatched today while I was at work (due on Sunday) and there was a lot of yolk left over - of course the chick fell asleep in the puddle and is glued to the floor with several coils of umbilical on the outside. I've been applying a damp paper towel (warm water) to soften the gluey yolk but nothing seems to be loosening up.

What should I do?

Sounds like it is unlikely to survive, I would personally cull it. If thats not an option for you the only thing I can think of is a warm damp rag. Also check your temperature and humidity. Temps are probably too hight, causing the early hatch.

I agree, temps were probably a little high. You could try a q-tip dipped in hotish water and try to loosen edges. Or some olive oil, that is what we use to remove any adhesive left over from band aids or stickers. Good luck!

As of 15 minutes ago the chick was loose. It isn't bleeding but there are still a few coils of umbilical. It is peeping like a sonofagun and moving around.

It was the egg closest to heat source, but a 2nd chick hatched today (opposite side of bator) and it was fine. Nobody ever said that nature makes sense!

Yea, good luck to him / her :)

Congratulations! So now you know next time don't put an egg in that spot if you can avoid it. It is always nice when it is something so simple!

They were turned twice daily and rotated around the incubator every 2 days up until lockdown, and always kept halfway across the incubator from the light. Last night I had a temp spike to 114 and all but the 2nd one to hatch are cooked. the one with the umbilical issue is dead and none of the other eggs have externally pipped. I candled a few of them and zero movement to be seen. There might be one or two that will hatch today/tomorrow but I really doubt it.

I bought my thermostat at Lowe's, next time I will use a good thermostat from my local plumbing co.

That's too bad. Very sorry. I also am having a hard time. I've had to hatch with five others wiggling. One is almost out but has been at it for around 28 hours! Should i help it out or will that hurt it?? Help I need advice!
