HELP EGG BOUND PULLET ** URGENT**

I don't think it was being stepped on by another hen, or an injury or egg binding. Sounds like pneumonia, do watch you other birds carefully.

However, what I really think it might be, is a genetic problem. Sometimes there is an organ that is malformed, and while it can keep up when the chick is small, the bird out grows it, and then dies.

Chickens often are not real long lived.

That's a good possibility. I had a bird that wound up outgrowing her heart we believe a while ago. It was far smaller than it should have been compared to her brothers'.

Okay thank you but I don't think she was sick because an hour before I was at the farm and she was doing perfectly fine then an hour went by I came to check on her and she was breathing rapidly and her tongue had red veins on it the symptoms appear so quick like within an hour and I know chickens hide their symptoms until it's usually too late but this was extremely faster than I've ever had with any other chicken

Okay thanks that's what I thought. I was at the farm when it must have happened because an hour earlier I was feeding them treats and they were all doing fine and then I left to go do other chores and when I came back to make sure the coop was all locked up that's when I found her breathing hard. I feel so bad and miss her so much she was such a sweetie I know the Four Sisters she grew up with miss her too
it's so hard losing them, I'm so sorry! After close to ten years of having laying hens, i have to tell you it has never gotten easier when they pass. (I've had a fox around here several times since winter and believe
he's the reason for the deaths of seven chickens. im paranoid now trying to keep them safe and won't let them free range they have to stay in their coops or runs now)

Thanks I miss her 😢 but she is in heaven getting all the scratch and mealworms she wants

Wow. So sorry for your loss, we are miserable today too, 4 days ago my favourite Sussex Light laid an egg that was broken the shell wasn’t properly hard, I thought it was weird but didn’t dwell on it, she laid two more beautiful eggs, then didn’t lay two days ago and looked sick, I gave her a 20minute epson salt bath, her vent looked fine, I rubbed olive oil in it just in case, but she Didn’t move, didn’t eat or drink, I squirted water with electrolytes in it and calcium and she swallowed it, but this morning she was panting then she died. Maybe she had broken egg inside Her and got an infection?… I’m so devastate, it’s so hard when you love your pets so much!😰😥😓 any ideas anyone? Yes they have full access to crushed shells..

Mine was acting the same and I treated her exactly the same. Mine was not laying I think either first egg or stepped on by a bigger one. I am sorry for your loss it's hard but at least they aren't suffering anymore 😔
