We have had a problem with mice in our garage all year. We scattered packs of mice poison everywhere and got rid of a lot. But we are finding some packages open. my favorite chicken (a golden comet) has been sick for the past two days. We realized we had left the garage door open and mice poison had been scattered and scratched around at. I think my chicken ate some...can I save my chicken??

Yes if she ate poison you will have to do an internal flush. There are two types of flushes both in case of poisoning.one is the Epson salt flush. 1 teaspoon Epsom salt in one 1/2 cup water carefully squirted down birds throat for 2 to 3 days. Next option is the molasses flush. One pint of molasses per 5 gallons of water let the bird drink for no more than 8 hours. Both these flushes are intended to hasten the birds recovery by flushing its body with laxitive that absorbs toxins and removes them from the body. This will flush its system. Only chose ONE of these flushes. I hope this helps and wish you the best!

I think you would need a vet. If it's an anticoagulant poison I believe the antidote is vitamin K? Don't quote me on that, it's just off the top of my head. Check with a vet, she most likely will not survive without intervention and I don't know if it will help since it's already been a couple days now.

Also I wanted to add if you chose the Epsom salt flush please do it carefully as you do not want to aspirate the bird. Do it very slowly letting the bird drink each squirt and do not push it in the mouth just dribble slowly into the beak because you can aspirate a bird if done too quickly. Hope this helps. Best wishes
