Hi. My name is Susan. I just started hatching chicks. I just had my first succesful hatch. I got my eggs for free from a local person. She told me that she does free rome with her chickens so she didn't know the breed or if the eggs were even fertile. I now have 8 babies that I don't know the breed. Three are pure black no feathers on the legs. Then I have one that is a reddish color with feathers on the legs. Then two yellow with feathers on the legs and a small black spot on top of heads. Then I have two pure yellow with feathers on thier legs. I would like to see what the most likely breeds are. Thank you.

These are my first hatch. These babies are four days old. I'm trying to find out what the breed or breeds most likely are. The little black ones are just black. No feathers on their feet. One is a reddish color with feathers on it's legs. Then two of the yellow have feathers on legs and black spot on their heads. Then two that are just yellow with feathers on their legs. I was told they are a barnyard mix. The person I got the eggs from said she let her chickens free Rome. I got two dozen and these are the only one that have

The best way to find out what you have, is to wait till they are 6-8 weeks of age, and then post photos at "what breed or gender is this."

Congratulations on your first successful hatch and more to follow I am sure. Could the lady tell you what feather legged breeds she has - it would give us a good clue to work from.
