Help! First time chicken owner and some of might have coryza!

that's true..about the bedding..
only use commercial packaged pine shavings..and no cedar, also no sawdust from mills.
hay and straw are not good either..if they get wet, they go moldy and throw off spores.

Actually, these particular 2- game bantams- WERE allergic to the pine bedding, and were fine once I switched them to sand. Then every time they'd run around the garden where the old pine shavings were dumped, they'd start sneezing again.

So our gray auracana died Friday night. To add to that my pretty polish Stella got sick the other night and we isolated her, just to have her die this morning. People think I'm crazy for being so upset over a chicken, but Stella was my girl. I still have two auracanas that were sick, but are coming out of it and two reds that are much better. We aren't going to integrate them back into the house until later this week. What else can we do to keep the healthy ones healthy? I don't want to lose any more, we've already lost 6 out of our tiny flock of 18.

Now my other Polish is sick. We have her isolated. The ones that aren't showing symptoms are still in the house. It has been staying around 55 degrees out here in the day, do you think we should still open the doors to the run or just keep them in the house too keep them from getting sick? The vet said it sounds like chronic respiratory disease.

Hi everyone, PolishGal's Momma, we have isolated and disenfected the coop and added a heat lamp. Some of our sickest birds have seemed to make an improvement over the last two weeks and the weeker/stressy birds have died. We have a lady from the State coming out this afternoon to take blood samples and swabs to determine what we have going on in our flock. Hopefully it can be treated. Lesson learned about introducing new hens/ birds into the flock. It's so sad cause our hens are our pets, not just egg layers. We will keep you posted on the results. I have noticed alot of entries about chickens having colds on BYC.
