Hi all,
I am just designing my first coop, and looking at a design in the book Poultry House Construction by Michael Roberts (anyone used his plans?). Another book says that the perch should be 18 inches from wall for the larger breeds to roost comfortably. But the design I'm looking at has the whole roosting area extending only 14 inches from the wall. Is this going to cramp the chickens?

Thanks for any help.

My roosts are 12 inches from the wall, I used scrap wood, and those are the size pieces I had. I've got some good-sized chickens, a couple of my barred rock girls are enourmous, LOL, and they roost with no problems.

I'll be interested to see what the more experienced chicken keepers have to say, though. I could be wrong, but have had no troubles thus far.
