My hen hatched 4chicks 2 days ago she left the nest and won't go back mostly tending to the chicks I was going to toss the remanding eggs this morning as I have no experience hatching Chiks as I thought they were no good and one has piped but the he. Wants nothing to do with setting what could I do to help it hatch would a heat lamp be ok

Hi there,

Has your hen accepted any of the chicks? If she has left and gone back to normal stuff not being broody or anything, I don't think there is a way to have her accept them. A heat lamp will work for hatched ones of course but I am not an expert at hatching, with temperature and such.

Yes accepted the first 4 I can raise it if need be I just want to figure out how to give it best chance to get out of the egg safely

If you can find some way to keep the egg between 98-99f and humidity up around 65-75%. You might be able to hatch it. I have heard of some people having success with the bra method, if you have nothing else.

I agree, you need to get that egg some humidity quickly or the membrane will get hard and trap the chick in the egg, maybe try wrapping the part of the egg that hasn't been pipped in a hot wet rag, and get a wet qtip and wet the exposed membrane to make it easier for the chick to break it, a heat lamp will help keep it warm hope this helps.

The membrane is the white layer right underneath the egg if you weren't sure.
How's it doing?

Ok egg wrapped and membrane dampened the chick has zipped about 1/2 " of shell

So I can see there is sack around the chick is that normal ( looks like a chick in a balloon) then the shell I am assuming I'm moistening the this membrane attached to the shell and not the sack
