I have two sick chickens. The first is a rhode island red about 3 yrs old. She is very skinny, lethargic, and her comb is floppy and dark colored. She has been this way for about 3 days now. She drinks water, but im not sure if she has been eating. Im guessing she hasnt because she hasnt been interested in eating the scratch in the morning. Any ides about her? Cures?

The second chicken is an Americauna. Not sure of her age, maybe two or three. She was fine this morning, very active. Then I go out to lock my chickens up for the night and shes just flopped down on the ground, eyes closed. I pick her up and she jumps and tries to fly. I had another Americauna look like this about a month ago. Left her overnight in our hay barn, incase she died in the night, so my other chickens didnt peck at her. Over night she popped out an egg, so she wasnt egg bound. She never got better, I had to put her down.
I dont want to lose another one with the same symptoms. Does anybody have any ideas what could be wrong and if i can cure her?

Please help!!

Welcome to BYC. You may get more replies during the daytime. If you have added any new chickens, I would consider coccidiosis as a possible cause, but egg yolk peritonitis or internal laying is very common at this age. Coccid treatment is amprollium or Corid for 5-7 days. Check for lice and mites, and think about worming. Here is a link about cocci and one for EYP: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/12/coccidiosis-what-backyard-chicken.html
