I have a one year old mixed game hen (I think, I got her from my granddad) named Franny with a disability, she can only see out of one eye and the other eye is deformed. we got her a few days ago before Easter and since then she's barely eaten anything, just pecking around but not eating from the main food supply. We have two other chickens, two polish hens, and they're all still establishing pecking order, but when I take Franny aside to feed her she refuses the food. she also stands around like a penguin and seems very listless, as she falls asleep even when standing up. she also caught lice from my granddad's farm. please help!!

Dose her crop is full and hard?do you fill that the crop isn't as usual?
If her crop is not paced with food and it seems normal, you should make a mash from boiled egg and some probiotic Yogurt you can add some Turmeric powder and some shredded Cucumber, and you need to feed here gently, a few times a day until She will gain here forces again! If you have some vitamins that you can add to
The drinking water it will also help here!

thank you so much! as the day progressed I noticed her getting better and better and she's even perking up! I noticed she's been eating and scratching again, and drinking tons of water. maybe she was just thrown off by the big change, since she came from a HUGE farm with 80+ chickens. thank you for your help! hopefully she starts laying again and starts feeling comfortable :)))

The next time that you will enter a new chicken to an existing flock you must Quarantine the new comer for 40 days before you enter it to the flock.

I'll remember that for next time!

For the lice you'll want to dust her with a poultry dust or 5% Sevin Powder. They look like this:

You're welcome! You might also want to think about de-worming them with something like Valbazen (albendazole) or Safeguard (fenbendazole). Tractor Supply will have the Safeguard (liquid or paste) in the goat, cattle and horse sections, but probably won't have the Valbazen, that you might have to buy online. If you do decide to worm with Safeguard, get the liquid for goats, it's cheaper per dose than the paste for horses. :D

You might also want to get a baseline weight on your birds and start weighing them, especially the new one. The new one I would weigh every few days to make sure she wasn't losing weight. The scale I use is a digital kitchen scale that I bought at Target.

she seems to be gaining weight every day, considering she had to fight for her food where she used to be because she was so weak and is disabled. Her and the other chickens are starting to get along and I've been giving her dust baths in wood ash for the lice and dusting their coop until we can get the sevin. she seems more active today and is even participating in pecking around with the other two chickens. :^ ) she still falls asleep though, which im considering is just her personality. i will also look up the medications you recommended!!! I'll make sure to deworm them! thank you so much, i really appreciate all your help, since I'm new at this and I'm pretty much the unqualified family vet lmao
