Well, A few days ago I brought home two day old Baby Red-Golden Pheasants, hopefully a breeding pair. How can I tell how to sex them from appearance or looks or behaviors? I have tried vent sexing and it just doesn't work out for me.

I was told you could look into their eyes, that you could tell by the tail, but i don't know.

Wow 2 days old and you want to know the sexes? What is the hurry? They will not breed until next year,so let them grow up and you can enjoy them. You can't vent sex 2 day old birds.Dirty jobs had a show on a hatchery sexing ringnecks, maybe you could search the archives and find it.They make it look so simple.

Hi chickenlovefever.

I would advise against making those two a breeding pair if they turn out to be male and female. You don't want inbred birds. (anymore than what they already are)

Even if a breeder tells you they are unrelated, I would still not believe them. You should get another pair. It's a good excuse to get more.

It's always good to try to go as far back as possible concerning the lines and all that. And then pass the info on to the people that buy from you.
these are pheasants, not nasty ole chickens
