I have the reptipro 5000 and this is my first hatch! I didn't know about a hygrometer till now, but I did have water in the incubator the entire time my eggs have been in. I am to go into lockdown Sunday morning and got a wired thermometer/ hygrometer from lowes. I just set it up an put in a larger dish of water and my humidity is reading 30%! Do I need to give it more time to read accurately? I candled the eggs yesterday and from what I saw, I am hopeful for at least a few to hatch. Some I couldn't see thru the shell... Just really worried about the humidity! any info is GREATLY appreciated!

:barnie:rant:mad::jumpy hoping my babies make it!

Get a NEW kitchen sponge, soak it with warm or room temp water and put it in the bator, should get your humidity up quickly. You need to get your humidity up to about 65 to 75%. It has always worked for me.

Good Luck with you hatch

Just checked it after an hour and it seems to have went down again! The temp is right on with the temp of the bator... But the humidity is at 29% now! Could it b that the water I put in the dish was cooler? Should I wait till the morning to put the sponge in? The front window of the bator has condensation on it right now....

If you have condensation on the windows then you are definitely over the 70's. There is something wrong with your Hydrometer. Be careful because you shouldn't have any condensation on the windows, that means too high humidity.

Everything seemed to b calibrated till I decided to replace the water with new water and change the spot of where I placed the new hygrometer...it is a digital hygrometer. I had it in the bottom shelf but then thought it should b on the top shelf where the eggs are! I should have left it alone! Now I'm freakin out!
