Here's Dan :-) he's not very photo friendly lol

I saw both his parents and they were not big at all? Maybe a mini? She did say something about mini oberhaslis?

Aww, he's super cute.

I was just concerned, so I googled the Oberhasli stats and the standard size is quite large, like 100-150lbs which is quite a jump from the nigerian's 50-75lbs.
If they are a miniaturized breed, you should be okay.

If both his parents were small that would make him at least a 2nd gen, right?

Yes because the first gen is a mix ober and nigerian. I'm brand new to this whole farming thing. Just got my farm on April 1st. I hope I don't make any bad mistakes :-( it's difficult because so many people tell you so many different things.

Yeah, it can be tough. I've been farming various animals for as long as I can remember, but I'm still learning new techniques and new ideas to try on a near-daily basis. Different things also work for different people. What works for me may not always work for you. The benefit of the forums is that you can get several different things to try and pick the one or ones that works best for your situation.

Yeah I guess the. Hardest part for me is there are so many passionate people willing to help, and I want to take there advice but they conflict.

I do have some experience with pigs as I did FFA through high school but that was along time ago...

Do you feed your goats goat food or just hay?

Trust your gut. If you aren't sure of an answer ask them why they do it that way for clarification. I would also go with the advice of someone with 10 years of experience rather than someone who just got goats or whatever animal you're asking about. (Just so you know, I've had goats for 6 years this fall

My goats get 1/2 cup of goat feed every day and a flake of hay twice a day in the winter (more if I have more than 3 goats). In the summer, they get their hay filled only when it's gone since they have pasture to eat. When my doe is prego, she gets 1/2 cup twice a day. When she kids, she gets 1 cup twice a day. When the kids are getting ready to be weaned, I cut her back little by little until she's at 1/2 a cup a day again (make sure it's little by little, goats have sensitive stomachs). Right now she's being cut back since her kids are 3 months old now. The kids get as much as they can eat while she's eating until I start cutting her back, then they get their 1/2 a cup a day ration same as her.

I have a salt/mineral block in their house and they get fresh water daily.

I clean the goat shed every 3 days in the winter and weekly in the summer (It does vary by the weather, so sometimes more than that.) I'm also considering doing it differently this winter. Some people have mentioned piling more bedding on top of the used bedding, since the composting causes heat to keep them warm and the new bedding keep them clean.

I also take them for walks as often as I can so they can get other plants and shrubs than they have just in their pasture. My main mama (Granny) is trained to walk on a leash and, since she's the head honcho, the rest (currently her two kids and the buck) follow where she goes. My dogs also help keep everyone in line, but they are really superfluous. (Don't tell them that, they'll be crushed.)

They have about an acre of pasture for the four of them.

I know that's more information than you asked for, but hopefully it all helps
