Hi all. I am very worried about my duck. She is about 1 year old Magpie. Has been straining and acting uncomfortable. Her tail flicks and she seeks a place to nest. She is not being social with the other ducks and acting reclusive. She has been a regular layer (daily) and no egg noted today. I tried giving her a warm bath which she happily sat in for a bit. I also tried Vaseline on her vent. I do not feel an obvious egg tring to come out upon palpating. I am a veterinary technician so I do have acess to antibiotics if needed. I have seen her poop and she is drinking. Any ideas on what to try next? Oh I also gave her chick electrolytes. Any ideas appreciated. Thank you.:(

She seems slightly hunched and her vent area pulsates like she is having contractions. She seeks a place to lay down and continues to appear to be straining. She is not happy, when I let the flock out to roam all she wanted to do was seek a place to lay down. The ducks and chickens eat a layer scratch and pellet. I guess she could have a vitamin deficiency if the feed is not appropriate. This is my first flock so I want to make sure I do whatever is necessary to keep them healthy. She does appear to pass stool, however maybe more watery and white than normal? I Seperated her from the other ducks for now so the drakes don't mate her.

Ooh yeah if it's watery poo it can be eggbound. Give her calcium, and keep her separated. Bath her in warm water ever few hours.

Are the pellets chicken pellets? Not that it's bad, but it can cause niacin deficiency. I've had it happen before. You can sprinkle extra niacin onto the food for the ducks. But if they're not showing signs it shouldn't happen, but it wouldn't hurt to do it once or twice even when not needed.
