I started Mr. Prissy's sourdough started a little more than a month ago, I've fed him every saturday, and stirred him daily. I've kept him on my counter the whole time. Today, I went to stir him, and he had not rose or anything! He's just sitting there like a cake batter. Did I kill him? Oh, and I refer to it as a him, because I named him George....

did it ever bubble and rise? I had a sluggish sourdough once and mixed up a tiny bit of yeast in warm water and stirred it in to give it a boost. Purists might say it is a no-no to do but it worked and continues to be bubbly and working.

Yeah, it did great until last week, when my daughter took an intrest in it. She put the lid completly on the container its in..

I keep mine in an ice cream pail and keep the lid on so that shouldn't matter. I used store bought yeast not wild yeast so maybe that is the difference. Here is the thread I started on sourdough recipes with how I keep it, etc. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=272398

I
also found milk works better than water in feeding it. Some people use water but I didn't like the results. I've also heard that you should not use a metal spoon but not sure why but I don't take any chances and use a wooden or plastic spoon to stir it.

Hope it helps.

Ok, It had the store bought yeast, and raw milk... I think Kennedy's done a number on him.... I'll start over and use your starter! Thanks So Much!
