Help im new to this

Hi

I currently have 2 duckling eggs in my incubator and have a brooder ready for when they hatch. I am struggling to find out the correct heat source for them in their brooder. I keep reading that heat lamps of 250w are good but I only have 2 ducklings. But then I read normal household lamps of 60w are good. Please can someone give me advice as I am new to this.

I’ve always just used a 60w in a clip on desk lamp and made sure the sides are closed in to keep the heat in. They’ll move closer to the light as they need it and Vice versa.

I plan on using old t shirts and old towels for bedding as I read somewhere. Is this ok??

Your bedding will get wet fast, and will need changed often. They could get mold or fungal problems with tshirt bedding.

I do pine shavings and then put paper towels over that for the first day or two until they figure out to eat feed rather than shavings. Lol

This is one of my dry boxes. When I take the chicks out of the hatcher they go into a dry box which has pine shaving with paper towel over the shavings. I have a 15 watt incandescent bulb for heat. Works great. After they have dried I put them in a brooder which has a 60 watt incandescent bulb for heat and wire in the bottom. I put paper towels over the wire for the first few days them take the paper towel out.
