This is the first time my ducks have laid eggs. i have two mallard drakes and two Rouen hens. I looked today and I have 4 eggs in a nest on the floor of the coop. id like to leave them and see if they will hatch but its so late in the year and I haven't seen either hen on the nest. How long can eggs sit without a mama and still be viable.

If they've just started laying, they're highly unlikely to go broody--especially at this time of year. Wait until next spring.

And fourteen days is generally considered the time when fertility drops drastically.
Thanks I wasn't sure if they would even lay if they weren't going to brood them. I have Zero duck experience. I may just collect these and wait until spring.

I've never had Rouens, but I've heard that they sometimes go broody in winter. The real question is, "Even if they do go broody, would I want ducklings in December?"

That's what i was thinking. I just dont think Ducklings in winter is the best idea.
