We got 2, 6 week old chicks to add to our flock and my daughter opened up the smaller coop they were in and they got out the 10 week old rooster chased them and the chicks flew away 😭😭 we have found one (but cant catch it) looked for the other one for hours now (we have a lot of property she could be hiding on) any tips on how to find/catch them now?? I have put out food but not sure of what else to do, we have raccoons in our area so I need to catch them before dark!!

try calling " here chick chick chick!" shaking a container of feed to get her to come over for a snack. if you can't find her and it is getting dark out, leave a light on so she can find her way back and the light may possibly scare away predators.

How many days were they in the coop? If they were in there awhile, like Sourland said likely they will return as night comes.

Also, I catch wayward chicks with a fish net (they have the big 2'-3' open end) when my free-range ones get a little too wild / far out. So if you have a net around or a friendly fisher nearby maybe borrow his to help catch them.

Also, keep in mind a chicken natural defense is to hunker down. They can hide like champs in the smallest pile of sticks. So even if you don't see them, they may still be out there.

Lastly, chicks don't like to be alone (especially if these two were raised together). They will definitely cheep for each other when they feel the immediate danger is gone. You could use your ears to hone in on them.

Like some one said, lock up the rooster. If she hasn’t come out before dark, I would start looking for her then. She may hunker down somewhere and not move. Check under piles of brush and thick greenery.
